Brief Operational Points to note when using Weight Benches:
- Always first warm up and prepare your muscles before you start lifting weights with some easy arm stretches. A safe lifting positioning is needed to protect your joints and your feet need to be under your knees in order to be able to contract the glutes during the lifting movement and your chest must be arched to establish a stable base of your shoulder blades
- Several joints such as shoulders, wrists, elbows and your back can become vulnerable when safe lifting techniques are not implemented
- Ensure the weight rack above is stable and secure and the pins locked into position and clips at the end of the bars in case you fail
- If you are training at home on your own, you should leave the clips off in case you get stuck under the bar so that they can slide off to the side.
- Make sure the alignment and everything else is in the centre and when you lay back your eyes should be at the same height of the bar to assist in the lift from the rack and ensuring the bar path is exercised correctly

Having a quality weight bench cannot be over emphasized. At a point in my life when I was so eager to get into body fitness I decided to make my own fitness bench myself, I said to myself, how hard can it be. The bench had to give way during one of my workout sessions. Glad I came across this research review as this as I am presently looking to get another weight bench at the lowest possible price and this is a great job here to save me money as the Opti from Argos certainly ticks all of my boxes
Hi Peter, this article certainly points out some really good options and from them, I would definitely be choosing the Everlast weight bench, the features are exactly what I want. I didn’t realise Argos even had these benches in stock so its great to know this – I learned something useful today as the gear from Argos never lets me down
Just to share my feedback, I like all the weight benches you’ve listed here but my preference is the Opti butterfly and the TNP bench. They are all budget friendly and look to be very durable and made from good construction. I particularly like the TNP Weight bench because, it looks to be a bench that is really strong and the folding mechanism is critical due to my small sized gym room at home
Good options are provided here in my opinion. The TNP accessories folding weight bench is really interesting to me as I really like the way it can be easily folded up when I’m finished with it as I have a really small living space so that one would be my preferred bench to go with here. The price isn’t too bad for the budget I have set aside either, thanks for flagging this one up as I hadn’t seen fold up benches before.
Hello Peter, I have read your article on cheap weight benches available in the UK and I must say every gym owner or fitness person should read this article before buying their benches. Even at the cheap and low prices, you can get a good deal from a recognised brand, I had one in the past from a brand that I knew nothing of and it only lasted 3 months. I would say that people should stick to the brands that they know the best and trust as the cheapest prices is not always the best option when you look at it from a long term basis point of view. That’s my thoughts on this subject but thanks for sharing the options, I am sure there are many here in the UK that will benefit from this
I am glad you posted this video and I certainly took something from it, I like how you let people know that if they are working out alone to not put the clips on the end. I used to workout alone in my home gym and since I changed weight all the time I just left the end clips off to make changing the weight a quicker process. One day while I was bench pressing the weight bar ended up on my chest and I couldn’t get it off, fortunately since the end clips were not on I was able to tip the bar and make the weights slide off. In my opinion the best buy from this list would be the Opti 30kg or the Everlast bench, both equally solid and more or less the same cost wise
This is an money saving article. I am a great fan of everlast weight bench, It is very affordable and looks solid and durable and the fact that the weights are included is a major plus which makes it a bargain at £84.99 from what I can see. Many others don’t have the weight plates included but the Everlast does which is a big advantage
